Saxophone Neck made by Friso Heidinga

“The handmade Heidinga neck not only improves the sound of my own saxophone, it also makes other brand horns sound better. I tried it on my old Selmer Mark VI and the difference is just unbelievable.”
Candy Dulfer

The traditionally hand-hammered Heidinga saxophone neck enhances the resonance of a new saxophone and can even help legendary instruments like the Selmer Mark VI or (Super) Balanced Action reveal a deeper, more open sound.

The Heidinga neck gives the saxophone a broader range of harmonics, allowing the player’s personality to come through more freely — making playing easier, more inspiring, and simply more enjoyable.

Whether you are an amateur or a professional player, the Heidinga neck can be a valuable upgrade for your instrument.
Because ultimately, you want your horn to give you the freedom to fully experience your own sound.

“I just love it.”
Melissa Aldana
GRAMMY-nominated saxophonist and composer Melissa Aldana plays the Heidinga neck on her Selmer Super Balanced Action tenor saxophone.

Behind each neck stands Friso Heidinga, Dutch saxophone maker and co-founder of Amsterdam Winds, known for the Free Wind Saxophone.

For more than a decade Friso has explored how the neck defines a saxophone’s projection, tone, and ease of playing. In close dialogue with leading musicians, Friso refined every detail to reach the ideal balance between openness, control, and resonance.

Each Heidinga neck is crafted from the highest quality German brass and shaped entirely by hand — hammered, aligned, and finished with precision.

“Friso’s neck is truly fantastic.
I haven’t felt this comfortable with a neck for a very long time and would highly recommend these necks to anyone looking to free-up their sound.”

Miguel Zenón
GRAMMY winner and MacArthur and Guggenheim Fellow Miguel Zenón plays the Heidinga neck on his Selmer Mark VI and on his Selmer Supreme alto saxophone.

Friso’s search for sound has always reached beyond the neck itself. In his earlier work he designed and built complete saxophone prototypes from the ground up — an exploration that deepened his understanding of how every element of the instrument interacts to create tone.

That experience now lives on in the Heidinga neck: a distilled expression of years of research into resonance, response, and tonal freedom.

Each Heidinga neck is available for alto and tenor saxophone, and fits all modern instruments as well as most vintage horns. If you’d like to learn more or order a Heidinga neck, please feel free to get in touch.

“I’m really digging the dynamic vibrations and dark brilliance of my new Heidinga tenor saxophone neck. Friso’s attention to detail is full of love & passion.”
