Candy Dulfer plays the Heidinga neck on her Free Wind alto saxophone.
"I am so happy with the saxophones Friso makes, but now he has outdone himself with adding a new neck to his collection! It not only makes my own sax sound even better, clearer and gives me even more dynamic power, it also makes other brand horns sound better. I tried it on my old Selmer Mark VI and the difference is just unbelievable."

Multi awarded saxophonist and composer Yuri Honing plays the Heidinga neck on his #39.xxx Selmer Super Balanced action and on his #121.xxx Selmer Mark VI tenor saxophone.
"In the past 35 years as a touring artist newly made instruments in my opinion never met the quality of the great old instruments. Therefore I have never before endorsed newly made necks or saxophones. This time it’s different. This superbly handmade neck by Friso Heidinga has surpassed my expectations in every way. Protecting the unique frequencies that a Selmer SBA saxophone produces and at the same time adding way more dynamic range. Being a former Mark VI player for many years I was relieved to discover that the machine gun qualities of a good Mark VI now applies as well for my beloved SBA. I seriously recommend this Heidinga neck to all professional players in the international field."
- Yuri Honing
Internationally acclaimed saxophonist Felicity plays the Heidinga neck on her Free Wind alto saxophone.
"There is a magic behind Friso's work. The best way to understand and appreciate this is to visit Friso in his workshop in Amsterdam. What he did on his own is truly breathtaking and admirable. Not only his saxophones are entirely handmade, but Friso has also made all the tools, machines and even computer software to achieve a desirable design.Due to his scientific background, he put an enormous amount of effort to understand why some things doesn't work on the saxophone design and put all his resources into creating something really new. The most admirable aspect of Friso's work is his sense and responsibility for perfection. He will actually suffer if the customer is not satisfied and still delivers his instrument in absolutely perfect conditions. Free Wind isn't just a brand , but something very exclusive. It is only Friso Heidinga behind the brand, no other hands, which makes the manufacture of his instrument a very slow process.
Friso's saxophone necks are an absolute game changer. It is like a taste of his work for those who are curious about his Free Wind saxophone. Friso hammers the necks the old-fashioned way which really makes a difference from ones made in modern day factories. If you are looking for a magic of the Selmer Mark VI, you might find something even better in Amsterdam!"

Jack Prybylski
American saxophonist Jack Prybylski plays the Heidinga neck on his Ishimori Wood Stone tenor saxophone.
"If one believes that the saxophone is an extension of oneself, then the two primary components that allow the transfer from self to the instrument are the mouthpiece and neck. Here is a review of the latter, specifically the Friso Heidinga saxophone neck. To say that the Heidinga neck is fantastic is putting it mildly!
Here are just a few ways it enhances the sound: First, the Heidinga neck is very free blowing, allowing one to play the softness of sub-tones to 'paint-peeling' fortes with ease and without any deterioration of that sound. That sound is focused, features more harmonics, and results in a complex, rich sound throughout the entire range of the saxophone - no more 'stuffy' middle register. The quality of this neck is impeccable, the artistry is world-class. The neck is a piece of art, indeed 'a thing of beauty'. It is Friso's passion coming to life. It will allow your inner voice to shine through your saxophone without thinking about doing so. You'll be able to create and not worry about the mechanics. I strongly suggest anyone wishing to express themselves to their fullest potential to purchase a Heidinga Saxophone Neck."

Norwegian saxofonist Børge-Are Halvorsen plays the Heidinga neck on his Yamaha 875EX Custom alto and tenor saxophone.
"Thanks for your work, it’s really amazing how much of an improvement and different character your neck provides. The Yamaha, which is a very clean, well built horn in every way, all of a sudden becomes inspiring and fun! It’s ridiculous how much this neck brings life and character into an otherwise almost sterile (but REALLY good) instrument!"

Belgian saxophonist Vincent Mardens plays the Heidinga neck on his 1936 Selmer Balanced Action tenor saxophone.
“When I tried Friso’s necks (which he presented to me with such patience) I really felt -without exaggeration - that I had found the missing piece of the puzzle between my mouthpiece and my incredible 1936 Selmer saxophone. The H neck opened up new perspectives for me, making me feel less limited in certain aspects. I now have much more dynamic range than before. The sound is powerful, the precision is there. And yet, when I compare your work side by side with my Mark VI neck (which I used on my Balanced Action before because it worked better than the original neck), I don’t understand… It’s incomprehensible, it’s magic. The irrational does exist! In any case, it must be the passion you put into your work that makes all the difference. Once again, thank you. I highly recommend my fellow saxophonists to make a trip to Amsterdam!!"
- Vincent Mardens
Brazilian saxophonist Thiago Ferté plays the Heidinga neck on his #105.xxx Selmer Mark VI tenor saxophone.
“I am so very happy to have a neck made by Friso Heidinga. The accuracy, the ease of playing the high notes, to better control my sound as well as its free blowing aspect allows me to further explore the possibilities of my saxophone as well as my creativity as an improviser. Thank you very much for everything, Friso, and much success in your business!"

Nicholas Gerlach
American saxophonist Nicholas Gerlach plays the Heidinga neck on his Selmer Super Action 80 tenor saxophone.
"The Heidinga neck instantly made my horn sound better and play easier. With it, there is no need to change air flow as you move through the complete range of the horn. It also provides great intonation throughout the horn, including in the altissimo register. It also keeps my horn versatile enough to work in any professional musical situation. Simply put, it’s the best neck I’ve ever played."

Robert Mollee
Dutch saxophonist Robert Mollee plays the Heidinga neck on his #150.xxx Selmer Mark VI tenor saxophone and on his #157.xxx Selmer Mark VI alto saxophone.
"I have been playing saxophone for a couple of decades and through the years improved gradually in many small and occasionally bigger steps. Playing the Heidinga neck feels like a major step forward in my musical development. There is more projection in the sound of my saxophones: in a big band setting I have more presence without having to play louder or put in more effort. Especially in smaller groups I find it easier to play more dynamically because of the overall feel of having more control over my instrument. The same instruments I have played for years suddenly bring me a step closer to realizing my musical ideas. And other people do notice it too. It really feels great!"

"Friso is a master artisan who not only understands his profession but lives it. I play the Heidinga neck on my #159.xxx Selmer Mark VI tenor, and I can't imagine being without it anymore. From the very first moment, I was deeply impressed by its phenomenal response and flexibility across all registers. The H neck gives my horn an even more open, radiant sound and resonance that reach right into my fingertips, blending me as a musician with my instrument. Its incredibly precise intonation offers me even more creativity and ease in improvisation and playing in general. I highly recommend Friso's neck to any player looking to improve their instrument!"

Alain Halimi
French saxophonist Alain Halimi plays the Heidinga neck on his Selmer Balanced Action tenor saxophone.
"The original neck of my Selmer Balanced Action tenor has been stolen. I bought a new Selmer neck but the pleasure and confidence to play were not there anymore and I was only playing the instrument when I absolutely required it for a job. When I contacted Friso, at the same time I contacted other neck makers. I had a phone call with Friso and I could feel his passion and care so I decided to order his neck. When the neck arrived, I didn’t have much time to test it but I couldn’t stop playing as it felt that I was meeting an old friend.
It has been a few years since my original neck was stolen but I feel that the new neck is more than what I was hoping to get. I play easily in all the range and with pleasure, the sound is rich and focused, and I enjoy my time expressing myself with my saxophone and I find new ways to modulate my sound as it feels very easy to produce what I think in terms of power and texture. It is my pleasure to recommend Friso, his patience and passion can be felt in the piece he created for me and this is a good match for my almost 100 year old sax, a piece that is a gem in terms of craftsmanship.”

Dutch saxofonist Aart Heere plays the Heidinga neck on his #157.xxx Selmer Mark VI tenor saxophone.
"I was pleasantly surprised that the Heidinga neck improved my horn. The lower end of the instrument got more power and more core to it. It's more leaning towards the Super Balanced Action sound so many people like, without loosing the Mark VI qualities. The saxophone's intonation improved as well making it more consistent through all registers and easier to play. Friso kept making small adjustments to the neck while I tried it. The end result is a perfect combination between the saxophone, the player and the neck - tailor made. Definitely give it a try!"

Both on my Selmer Mark VI alto and on my Super Balanced Action tenor saxophone, playing the highs and lows is much easier and the tones are fuller and warmer over the whole range than with the original necks. The order and Friso's very nice and uncomplicated manner during our communications made my purchase perfect. Even a small change made to a neck was not a problem!!! The intonation and tone are very solid, especially by getting to the middle register and altissimo range. The tones are more even. The neck gives the performance a certain easiness. Dutch saxophonist Joep van den Broek plays the neck on his Selmer Super Action 80 alto and tenor saxophone.
"I was never such a gearhead and was always quite satisfied with my Selmer Super Action 80. I never went along with the hype for vintage Selmers and the prices that are being asked, perhaps unjustly. But with this neck it's different. What the Heidinga neck does for me is twofold: First of all, my sound becomes considerably more open, the sax seems to resonate better and the sound has more balls. In addition, the individual tones are more even, middle D for instance was always a bit dull with my old neck. This is much better now."
